Fair Oaks 12, Sacramento 4 (League: 17-1, Overall: 22-2) - July 6 @ William Land Park - Fair Oaks won its final regular-season league game of the year with a 12-4 victory over Sacramento at William Land Park.
Fair Oaks rested many of its regular starters, but the crew that took the field didn't waste any time as the Oaks ran up a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
With one out, catcher Ryan Appledorn got a hit to center field. Shortstop Steve Rinaudo was next at bat, earning a walk, but not before Appledorn was erased as he was caught stealing. With center fielder Ryan Stevens at the plate, Rinaudo stole second, but then Stevens tripled to score Rinaudo and bring in the Oaks first run. Third baseman Andrew Leduc followed with a sharply hit ball of the third baseman's glove that scored Stevens and then walks to second baseman Jason Lomascola and first baseman Tyler Robertson loaded the bases.
Pitcher Trevor Lewis then hit a ball to second. The second baseman knocked it down, Lewis beat the throw to first and Leduc and Robertson were able to score to make it a 4-0 Oaks lead.
Sacramento came back with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Fair Oaks extended its lead to 7-1 in the top of the second.
With one out, Appledorn got a hit to left. Rinaudo also followed with a hit to left and then a walk to Stevens loaded the bases. With two outs, Lomascola walked to force Appledorn in, driving Sacramento's starting pitcher out of the game.
The new hurler hit the first batter he faced - Robertson - forcing Rinaudo in to make it 6-1 and then a walk to Lewis forced Stevens in to make it a 7-1 game.
After Lewis put Sacramento down in order in the bottom of the second, the Oaks offense went back to work in the top of the third. Right fielder Robert Butler led off with a ball to short, but Butler beat the throw to first. Appledorn then hit a ball to short that was booted and Rinaudo walked to load the bases.
Stevens followed with a hit to right to score Butler. Appledorn also tried to score, but was out at the plate. Rinaudo advanced to third on the play, however, with Stevens taking second.
Leduc then hit a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Rinaudo to score and bring the Oaks lead to 9-1.
Lewis allowed only one base runner over the next two innings and then Fair Oaks scored again in the fifth as Stevens led off with a triple and scored on Leduc's ground ball to short to make it 10-1.
Post 383 added another run in the sixth off another new Sacramento pitcher. With one out, walks to Butler and Appledorn put two runners on and then with two outs, a hit to right field by Joe Holguin scored Butler to make it 11-1.
Sacramento scored three runs in the sixth as Lewis hit two batters and gave up a double, but Lewis settled back down and ended the threat with a ground ball back to the mound and throw to first.
Brian Garber came in to pitch the seventh for the Oaks and shut Sacramento down into the ninth when he was relieved by Austin Morgan. The Oaks scored their final run in the top of the ninth as Lomascola drew a one out walk and scored on a Robertson double to left field to bring the score to 12-4. Morgan gave up a leadoff hit in the bottom of the ninth, but the runner was thrown out trying to take second. Morgan then struck out the next two batters to end the game and give the Oaks a 17-1 league record.
