Fair Oaks 6, Yolo 2 (League: 17-1, Overall: 27-2) - July 16 @ Sacramento City College -  For the fifth time this season Fair Oaks and Yolo met on the baseball field and for the fifth time this season the Oaks came away with a victory as Post 383 downed the Woodland team 6-2 to claim the 2005 District 6 Championship.
Yolo had reached the finals by beating West Sacramento Friday night, 5-2, despite West Sacramento having beat Yolo twice already in playoff action and taking two of three meetings during the regular season.
Yolo jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Oaks and starting pitcher Ryan Stevens in the first inning, but Fair Oaks came back in the second to claim a lead they'd never give up as Stevens and first baseman Andrew Leduc homered to opposite fields to give the Oaks a 3-2 lead.
Third baseman Austin Morgan led off with a ground ball to third, but the throw to first was low and Yolo first baseman Robert Sunderland couldn't hold on and Morgan was safe.
Stevens then came to the plate and hit the ball over the right field fence to bring in two runs and tie the score at 2-2.
Catcher Joe Holguin was the next hitter and he flew to right field for the first out of the inning. Leduc then came to the plate and hit a towering shot over the left field fence to give the Oaks a 3-2 lead.
Post 383 added another run in the third inning as right fielder Mickey Weisser led off the inning with a walk. With Morgan at the plate, a wild pitch advanced Weisser to second and then Morgan's ground ball to short advanced Weisser to third. A bunt by Stevens toward third base brought in Weisser and the Oaks owned a 4-2 lead.
Yolo put in Matthew Redford to pitch in the fifth and he temporarily shut the Oaks down, but Post 383 scored again in the seventh as second baseman Kyle Richardson led off with a walk. A pair of wild pitches with Weisser at the plate advanced Richardson to third and then he scored on Weisser's fly ball to left to make it a 5-2 game.
The Oaks scored an insurance run in the eighth as Holguin led off with a hit up the middle that went off the pitcher's glove. Redford struck out the next two batters, but then shortstop Chris Dennison got a hit to left and center fielder Steve Rinaudo followed with a hit to right that scored Holguin to make it 6-2.
Yolo had hits in every inning except the second and seventh off Stevens and got a runner in scoring position in the ninth on a one out double by Ryan Martin that almost ended in disaster for the Oaks. Left fielder Jason Lomascola and Rinaudo, coming over from center - collided in pursuit of the ball - but both popped back up apparently unharmed.
Stevens got the next batter to fly out to right and then struck out Sunderland looking to end the game and give the Oaks the District 6 Championship for 2005.
