Fair Oaks 7, Sacramento 2 (League: 6-0, Overall: 6-0) - June 15 @ William Land Park - Fair Oaks jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning en route to a 7-2 victory over the Sacramento Legion team at William Land Park.
Center fielder Ryan Stevens led off the first with a ground ball to second, beating the throw to first for a hit. With left fielder Nikolai Rowe at the plate, Stevens stole second. Rowe walked and then with right fielder Mickey Weisser at the plate, Stevens and Rowe pulled off a double steal to advance to third and second. Weisser followed with a hit up the middle to score Stevens and Rowe and give Oaks starting pitcher Trevor Lewis a 2-0 lead.
Second baseman Steve Rinaudo was the next batter and he hit a ball to short. On a tough play, the throw went to second, but was too late to get Weisser and everyone was safe. The next two batters recorded outs and then first baseman Tyler Robertson drew a walk on a 3-2 count. Designated hitter Robert Beard followed with a hit to right center to score Weisser and Rinaudo and give the Oaks a 4-0 lead.
Lewis put Sacramento down in order in the bottom of the first and second. The Oaks loaded the bases in their half second, but failed to score, but did come back for a run in the third.
With two outs, Beard walked. With shortstop Chris Dennison at the plate, a balk advanced Beard to second. Dennison then hit the ball deep to short where it was knocked down, but the shortstop was unable to make a play. With Stevens at the plate, Dennison stole second. The throw from the catcher went into center field and Beard scored to give the Oaks a 5-0 lead.
Two more runs came home in the fourth to conclude the Oaks' scoring on the day. Rowe led off the inning with a ball hit to first - literally - as the baseball took a wicked bounce off the bag for a base hit. Rowe was running as the next batter, Weisser, was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on the next play as Rinaudo hit a ball back to the pitcher, with the throw going to first. Catcher Austin Morgan then doubled to left field, and Morgan probably would have got more except the ball rolled into the bushes for a ground rule call. Both Rowe and Weisser scored on the play, however, to give the Oaks a 7-0 lead.
The teams battled evenly into the sixth when Sacramento loaded the bases with no outs and scored its only two runs of the game. Beard took the mound in relief in the eighth and ninth innings allowing only a lone walk as the Oaks moved to 6-0 on the season.
