Fair Oaks 3, West Sacramento 0 (League: 8-0, Overall: 8-0) - June 18 @ River City High School - Fair Oaks completed a sweep of its doubleheader against West Sacramento with a 3-0 victory at River City High School June 18.
Fair Oaks went up 2-0 in the top of the second for starting pitcher Steve Rinaudo even though the Oaks managed only one hit in the inning. With one out, back-to-back walks to third baseman Jason Lomascola and first baseman Andrew Leduc gave the Oaks a pair of base runners. With shortstop Chris Dennison at the plate, a wild pitch advanced both runners and then Dennison's hit to right field scored Lomascola for a 1-0 lead.
Left fielder Robert Butler then was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The next batter, center fielder Ryan Stevens, then hit a ground ball to short. The throw went to second for a force of Butler, but Stevens beat the relay to first and Leduc scored to give the Oaks a 2-0 lead.
Fair Oaks scored its final run of the game in the fourth inning as Leduc was hit by a pitch with one out to start things off. Then with two outs, Butler hit a ball that took a bad bounce over short for a hit and Stevens followed with a hit to center to score Leduc and make it 3-0.
Rinaudo put West Sacramento out in order in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, before Leduc replaced him on the mound for the final inning of the game. Leduc allowed the first two runners he faced to reach base, but then a double play and a pop to first ended the game and gave the Oaks their eighth consecutive win. The 8-0 mark matched their best start ever - duplicating Fair Oaks' season-opening mark from the 2001 season.
