Baseball Web Page. A NOTE
FROM 2ND VICE-COMMANDER RICE - Hi! I regret to say I have
been ill for several weeks but have attempted to follow the exploits of
our mighty Oaks. The Oaks have again shown great prowess and
dedication to the sport of American Legion Baseball and should be very
proud of their achievements. I know that the members of sponsoring
American Legion Post 383 join me in congratulating everyone for the
fine record you established this year.Carroll A. Rice, Jr. 2nd Vice-Commander American Legion Post 383 Fair Oaks, CA MERCED
WINS STATE TITLE - (July 31) The Merced Volunteers
won the American Legion State Championship in Yountville with an 11-4
victory over the San Mateo Orioles. Merced, which entered the
tournament with a dismal 14-22 record, lost Sunday's first game 6-4 to
force a second game against San Mateo. Merced pounded out 14 hits in
the victory and improved its overall season record to 20-23. NAPA
CLAIMS TITLE - (July 24) The Napa Riverdogs
defeated Yolo
today by a score of 8-7 to claim the Area 1 championship and a trip to
the American Legion State Tournament to be held in Yountville, July
27-31. FAIR
OAKS ELIMINATED - (July 23)The Oaks lost to El
Dorado today
19-8 and were eliminated from the Area 1 Tournament in Eureka. Judging
from the scores of the last few games, the Oaks pitching finally ran
out as Fair Oaks was beaten by lopsided scores (19-8 and 13-2),
and even in their last victory gave up 10 runs, 20-10. Still, it was a
great season for Fair Oaks as the team claimed the District 6
championship and ran up a superb 17-1 league and 29-4 overal record. OAKS FALL
TO NAPA - (July 22) Fair Oaks fell to the
Napa
Riverdogs on Friday by a score of 13-2. Napa remains the only unbeaten
team in the Area 1 Tournament. Fair Oaks will now play El Dorado on
Saturday in a 12:30 p.m. game. Napa and Yolo will play at 4 p.m.
Yolo was a 10-0 winner over N. Humboldt, while El Dorado beat Chico
8-6. If Fair Oaks wins against El Dorado, the Oaks will play the winner
of the Yolo vs. Napa game at 7:30 p.m. If that team is Yolo, the
7:30 p.m. game will be for the championship. If Napa beats Yolo and
faces the Oaks, Post 383 would have to beat the Riverdogs twice to
claim the Area 1 crown. A second game would be played at 10:30 a.m. on
Sunday. POST 383
WINS AGAIN - (July 22) Fair Oaks Post 383
stayed unbeaten
in the Area 1 Tournament in Eureka Thursday night with a 20-10 victory
over the No. Humboldt Giants. The Oaks will next play the only other
remaining unbeaten team - the Napa Riverdogs - in a 7:30 p.m. contest
on Friday. A win there will guarantee them a spot in the championship
game on Saturday. In other Thursday results: Napa 6, Chico 5; Yolo 10,
Roseville 0; El Dorado 11, Redding 8. Redding and Roseville have
both been eliminated with two losses. OAKS
10-RUN REDDING - (July 21) Fair Oaks got off to a
good start
in the Area 1 Championship Tournament in Eureka by beating the Redding
Rattlers 12-2 in seven innings. Rober Butler pitched a complete-game
for the Oaks, scattering five hits, while Kyle Richardson went 3x4 with
2 RBI. The win puts the Oaks in a 7:30 p.m. game tonight against the
No. Humboldt Giants. Humboldt was a 9-7 winner over El Dorado in
its opening game. POST
383 WINS DISTRICT 6 - Fair Oaks used
home runs from Ryan Stevens and Andrew Leduc to overcome a 2-0 deficit
en route to a 6-2 victory over Yolo Post 77 at Sacramento City College.
The win, the fifth over Yolo this season, lifted the Oaks to the
District 6 title - their fourth D6 title since 1995. Ryan Stevens
pitched a complete game for the Oaks as they improved their season
record to 27-2.
