Chris Johnson slams the ball toward third in the fifth inning. Eggen's third baseman misplayed the ball and Johnson was safe in the Oaks' 5-1 victory on Saturday.
Fair Oaks 5, Charles Eggen 1 (League: 9-2, Overall: 13-2-1) - June 17 @ El Camino High - Fair Oaks gained a split in the second game of its doubleheader against Charles Eggen as the Oaks recorded a 5-1 victory at El Camino High School.
The Oaks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as catcher Jesse Olson got a one out hit to start things off. With third baseman Abel Alcantar at the plate, Olson stole second. Alcantar was hit by a pitch to put two runners on and then first baseman Andrew LeDuc grounded on the infield which resulted in an error and Olson scoring to make it 1-0. Right fielder Mike Sanchez then hit a ball to third that went for another error and allowed LeDuc to score to give the Oaks a 2-0 lead.
Eggen loaded the bases in the bottom of the first off starting pitcher Mark Lincoln, eventually scoring a run on a two out walk, but that would be all they would get the rest of the game.
Fair Oaks scored again in the second after two were out as designated hitter Robert Butler tripled to left center field. Shortstop Keith Jennette followed with a walk and then with Olson at the plate, Jennette stole second. Olson struck out, but the ball got away from the catcher forcing a throw to first, but the ball went wide and Butler was able to score to make it a 3-1 game.
The Oaks loaded the bases with one out in the fourth as Jennette walked, Olson got a hit to left and Alcantar was hit by a pitch, but Post 383 couldn't score.
The Oaks did pick up another run in the sixth, however, as Olson led off with a double and moved to third on a ground ball back to the pitcher by Alcantar. A fly ball to deep center by LeDuc allowed Olson to tag and score to make it a 4-1 game.
LeDuc took the mound in the previous inning to relieve Lincoln and shut down Charles Eggen the rest of the way. The Oaks scored their final run in the top of the seventh as left fielder Chris Johnson drew a one out walk and then was wild pitched to second with second baseman Ryan Appledorn at the plate. A groundout moved Johnson to third and he scored on a hit to left by Butler to make it a 5-1 game.
Eggen got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but LeDuc struck out two of the last three batters he faced to close out the game for the Oaks.
