Kyle Richardson leads off first base after walking in the fourth inning of the Oaks game against San Mateo.

San Mateo 1, Fair Oaks 0 (League: 11-3, Overall: 17-6-1) - July 3 @ Laurel Creek Park, Fairfield - Fair Oaks had a number of chances to score, but just couldn't bring home a run as San Mateo defeated the Oaks 1-0 at the WABF Tournament in Fairfield on Monday. The loss put Post 383 into the third place game the following day, preventing the Oaks from defending last year's championship.
The Oaks first chance to score came inthe second inning as first baseman Andrew LeDuc doubled to lead off the inning. A ground ball to first by designated hitter Abel Alcantar moved him to third, but that's as far as he got as two outs on the infield followed.
Fair Oaks got a runner as far as second in the third inning as a one out walk to third baseman Greg Polanski and a stolen base put a runner in scoring position. But again the Oaks couldn't bring the run in.
A leadoff walk to center fielder Kyle Richardson was again wasted in the fourth and the Oaks again got a runner as far as third in the fifth as left fielder Chris Johnson led off with a hit to center and moved to second on a ground ball to third by shortstop Chris Dennison. Another groundout moved Johnson to third, but again the Oaks couldn't get the run in for starting pitcher Robert Butler. Butler also escaped a number of close calls early in the game as San Mateo got runners in scoring position.
Two quick outs came in the seventh for the Oaks before Dennison got on in a close play from shortstop to first. The next batter grounded out, however, sending San Mateo up in the bottom of the seventh.
Then everything caved in for the Oaks. A leadoff hit to San Mateo's Adam Chickman started the inning. Eric Fregosi ran for Chickman and moved to second on a bunt by Colin Sabean that went back to Butler on the mound. Then, a slow chopper on the infield toward third by Alex Augustyn resulted in two runners on with only one out. The Oaks chose to intentionally walk the next batter to load the bases and it appeared as though Butler and Post 383 might have a chance of getting out of the inning unscathed as Butler struck out the next batter for the second out of the inning.
After Butler ran the count to 3-2 on San Mateo's third baseman Robby Solomon, Solomon knocked a clean single into left field to score the run from third and win the game for San Mateo. It was the second time in the tournament that San Mateo had beaten the Oaks as they opened the tournament with a 4-0 win on June 28.
