Starting pitcher Steve Rinaudo sends a pitch toward a Folsom batter in the Oaks 2-1 victory over the Flames on Saturday at Bella Vista.
Fair Oaks 2, Folsom 1 (League: 13-3, Overall: 20-6-1) - July 8 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks won the first game of its doubleheader against Folsom Saturday by a score of 2-1 at Bella Vista High School.
The Oaks were held scoreless through the first three innings, finally scoring a lone run in the top of the fourth. Post 383 was playing as the visiting team as the games were originally scheduled for Folsom High School. Field problems forced the switch to Bella Vista.
First baseman Andrew LeDuc led off the inning with a ground ball to short. The throw to first, however, was in the dirt and LeDuc was safe on the error. Right fielder Mike Sanchez bunted LeDuc to second and then shortstop Chris Dennison's hit to center field brought in LeDuc to make it a 1-0 game.
The Oaks and starting pitcher Steve Rinaudo held the lead until the sixth when Folsom tied the game. A leadoff walk was bunted over to second, advancing to third on an error and then the run came home on a ground ball to second to make it a 1-1 contest.
The game didn't stay knotted up very long though as the Oaks got another run in the top of the eighth to take a 2-1 lead.
With one out, LeDuc got a hit to center field and was joined on base by Sanchez who was hit by a pitch. Then with two outs, third baseman Justin Wilson hit a ball to third that was booted to load the bases. Catcher Bret Gibson then drew a walk to force in LeDuc and the Oaks owned a 2-1 lead.
Folsom managed a base runner in the eighth and got two on in the ninth before being put away by Rinaudo. The leadoff batter in the ninth beat out a ground ball to third and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. The next batter grounded to second where the ball was booted and Folsom's lead runner moved to third. Rinaudo struck out the next batter for the second out of the inning and then went to a 3-2 count on the Flames' next player. The Folsom batter was caught looking at a strike though for the third out and the Oaks held on to win the game by a score of 2-1.
