Fair Oaks 11, Auburn 3 (League: 2-1, Overall: 8-2) - June 10 @ James Field, Auburn - Fair Oaks completed its doubleheader sweep of Auburn with an 11-3 win at James Field.
The game was a lot closer - at least to start - than the 20-0 drubbing Post 383 gave Auburn in the earlier game, with the Oaks taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
With one out, catcher Ben Schwefel hit a ball to short that was bobbled to give the Oaks their first base runner of the game. Center fielder Jon Lang followed with another ball to short which was also booted, with Schwefel taking third and Lang making it safely to second on the play. Right fielder Robert Beard then got a hit to right that scored Schwefel to give Fair Oaks a 1-0 lead.
Auburn came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up and then scored two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead over the Oaks.
Auburn stayed out in front until the top of the fifth when nine Oaks runs crossed the plate to give Post 383 a 10-3 lead.
First baseman Charlie Robertson led off the inning with a hit to right field and second baseman Greg Polanski followed with a walk to put two runners on. Schwefel then bunted to third in an attempt to move the runners over, but beat the throw to first to load the bases with no outs. Lang grounded to second to score Robertson and then Beard hit a sharply lined ball to second that barely gave the fielder time to react before it skipped by him. Schwefel and Polanski both scored to give the Oaks a 4-3 lead. The next batter, designated hitter Josh Glaser, got a hit to right field that got by the right fielder, sending Glaser to second and Beard to third. This prompted an Auburn pitching change, but the new hurler gave up a hit to left fielder Mark Lincoln that scored Beard and Glaser to make it a 6-3 game. Shortstop Cameron Barr then hit a ball to second. The throw to first was high and he was safe. Third baseman Josh Britt then grounded to second with the throw coming home. Lincoln scored, however, and the Oaks owned a 7-3 lead. Robertson followed with his second hit of the inning - this time to left - with Barr and Britt scoring for a 9-3 lead. Robertson's hit to left was misjudged and went just out of the reach of the left fielder, with Robertson making it all the way to second on the play. With Polanski at the plate, a passed ball moved Robertson to third and then a wild pitch allowed him to score to make it a 10-3 game.
John Constance was replaced on the mound after five innings by Robertson with Constance having given up only four hits. Robertson put Auburn down in order in the sixth and the Oaks came back in the top of the seventh to score their last run.
With one out, Robertson doubled to right and then moved to third on a balk with Polanski at the plate. Polanski grounded out, but the next batter - Schwefel - got a hit to right to score Robertson for the 11-3 lead.
Michael Garber took over on the mound for the Oaks in the bottom of the seventh, putting Auburn down in order to give the Oaks the win.
