Fair Oaks 7, Galt 0 (League: 3-1, Overall: 10-4) - June 16 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks improved to 3-1 in District 6 play with a 7-0 shutout win over Galt on Saturday at Bella Vista High School.
The Oaks scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning as 12 batters went to the plate and six runs came home.
Second baseman Keith Jennette led off the inning with a bunt down the third base line that went for a hit. Center fielder Brian Stamps was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on. With first baseman Mike Sanchez at the plate, Jennette stole second and then scored on Sanchez's hit to center field. Right fielder Abel Alcantar followed with a hit to right that scored Stamps for a 2-0 lead and then designated hitter Mark Lincoln walked to load the bases. Shortstop Cameron Barr was hit by a pitch to force Sanchez in to make it 3-0 and then Alcantar scored on a hit to left by third baseman Josh Britt for a 4-0 lead. Catcher Ben Schwefel popped up invoking the infield fly rule, but then left fielder Greg Polanski bounced a ball back to the pitcher that was dropped with Polanski reaching first safely and Lincoln scoring to make it a 5-0 lead. Barr was forced at home as the next batter, Jennette, sent a ground ball to second, with the throw coming to the plate. A Stamps hit to right scored Britt, however, to give the Oaks a 6-0 lead and firm control of the game.
Neither team was able to score again until the bottom of the seventh when Fair Oaks got its final run of the game. With one out, Polanski hit a ball to short that went for an error. With Polanski running, Jennette got a hit to right that sent Polanski all the way to third. A fly to center field by Troy Spivey allowed Polanski to tag and score from third to make it 7-0. After a Sanchez hit to right center, Alcantar was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but a ground out ended the inning before the Oaks could score again.
Galt managed a lone hit in the top of the eighth off Oaks starter Josh Glaser, but couldn't get the runner any farther than first. Michael Garber took over in the ninth and sent Galt down in order to preserve the 7-0 shutout win. Galt pitching hit five Fair Oaks batters in the game.
