Fair Oaks 12, Lodi 2 (League: 5-1, Overall: 14-4) - June 20 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks improved its season record to 14-4 with a 12-2 non-league win over Lodi at Bella Vista High School.
Lodi made it a 1-0 game in the top of the second as an error and a couple of hits off starting pitcher Matt Haney brought in a run, but the Oaks came right back to score two of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they'd never give up.
Fair Oaks first baseman Charlie Robertson led off the inning with a hit up the middle and then with one out scored on a double to right center by center fielder Troy Spivey. With two outs, Spivey scored on a hit to right by shortstop Cameron Barr to give the Oaks a 2-1 lead.
Fair Oaks broke the game open in the bottom of the third as seven runs came home for a 9-1 lead.
Designated hitter Keith Jennette led off the inning with a bunt back to the pitcher. The throw to first, Jennette and Lodi's first baseman all reached the bag about the same time resulting in a bone-jarring collision. Jennette was safe, but had to leave the game and was replaced on first base by Haney.
Third baseman Brian Stamps was the next batter and hit a ball to third that was booted putting two runners on base. Right fielder Mike Sanchez then doubled to right center scoring Haney and sending Stamps to third. Robertson then sent a ball to center field that was dropped allowing Stamps to score to make it 4-1, with Sanchez advancing to third. Left fielder Josh Glaser followed with a hit down the third base line that went for a double and scored Sanchez and Robertson to make it a 6-1 game. A Spivey hit to center scored Glaser and then with two outs a triple to right field by second baseman Greg Polanski scored Spivey to make it 8-1. The final run of the inning came home on Haney's hit to deep short. Haney beat the throw to first and Polanski scored to give the Oaks a 9-1 lead.
Michael Garber took the mound for the Oaks in the fourth inning and sent Lodi down in order. The Oaks came back for two more runs in the bottom of the inning to make it an 11-1 game.
Josh Britt led off the inning with a walk and then Jon Lang sent the ball over the left field fence for a home run to score Britt ahead of himself for the 10 run lead.
Lodi got a run back in the top of the sixth to make it an 11-2 game and the game stayed that way until the eighth inning.
Mark Lincoln came in to pitch the top of the eighth for the Oaks and sent Lodi down in order. The Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning for a run that ended the game due to the 10-Run Rule.
With one out, Lincoln hit a ball to first, but evaded the tag attempt and was safe at first. A ground ball to first by Brandon Lang, who had come in to catch in the sixth inning, moved Lincoln to second, and then a Barr hit to right scored Lincoln to give the Oaks a 12-2 lead and the victory.
