Fair Oaks 5, Manhart 2 (League: 0-0, Overall: 2-0) - May 27 @ Land Park - The Oaks improved to 2-0 in the Memorial Day Tournament at Land Park with a 5-2 victory over Manhart.
Fair Oaks took a 2-0 lead in the second inning for starting pitcher Robert Beard as designated hitter Steven Langford got a two out walk. Left fielder Greg Polanski was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on and center fielder Brian Stamps walked to load the bases. Langford then scored on a walk to second baseman Garrett Micheels to make it a 1-0 game. With first baseman Mike Sanchez at the plate, a wild pitch allowed Polanski to score to give the Oaks a 2-0 advantage.
Manhart got one run back in the top of the third as three of the first four batters got base hits to make it 2-1. But a throw out on an attempted steal and a strikeout ended the inning leaving the Oaks leading by one.
Fair Oaks went up 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Polanski led off with a walk. This prompted a Manhart pitching change, but miscues hurt Manhart as Polanski stole second and then went to third on a passed ball. Stamps then sent a fly to right that allowed Polanski to score for the 3-1 lead.
The Oaks padded their lead in the fifth with a pair of runs to make it 5-1. With one out, right fielder Josh Glaser hit a ball to second that was booted and with third baseman Taylor Sanders at the plate, Glaser stole second. Sanders eventually walked and then shortstop Josh Britt followed with a hit to right field that scored Glaser to make it 4-1. With two outs, Polanski added a hit up the middle to score Sanders and the Oaks owned a 5-1 lead.
Michael Garber took over on the mound in the top of the seventh for the Oaks, striking out the first batter he faced. But then a Manhart hit, a wild pitch, and an error put a runner on third. Garber then delivered a wild pitch that allowed the run to come in to bring the score to 5-2.
Garber settled down, however, striking out the batter at the plate and then throwing a ground ball that went third to first to end the game and give the Oaks the victory.
