Yolo 6, Fair Oaks 2 (League: 11-4, Overall: 26-8 ) - July 8 @ Bella Vista High School - Yolo beat Fair Oaks 6-2 to move one game up on the Oaks in the District 6 standings with only three games remaining in the season.
The Oaks and Yolo have now played five times this season, with Yolo owning a 3-2 advantage, although their 5-2 win in the Memorial Day Tournament at Land Park came against a shorthanded Oaks team due to high school baseball playoffs.
Yolo scored twice in the first inning of Sunday's game to take a lead they would never give up off Oaks starter Robert Beard. Four of the first five Yolo batters got base hits, with the only early out coming on a sacrifice bunt that moved the leadoff hitter to second base.
The Oaks went out in order in the bottom of the first, but got something going in the second inning as they scored one run to make it a 2-1 game.
First baseman Mike Sanchez got a leadoff hit to center field and then moved to third on a double to left by designated hitter Charlie Robertson. Shortstop Troy Spivey walked to load the bases and then Sanchez scored on center fielder Brian Stamps fly to  left to make it 2-1.
Both teams had chances to score through the sixth inning, but excellent defense on both sides turned back the runners. But in the top of the sixth, Yolo scored another pair of runs to up its lead to 4-1. The Oaks came back with a run in the bottom of the inning, but that's as close as they'd get the rest of the way.
Sanchez led off with a double to left that just glanced off left fielder Ian Sunderland's glove. Robertson then hit a ball to short. The throw went to third to try to get Sanchez, but he was ruled safe and the Oaks had runners at the corners with no outs. Spivey then hit a ground ball to second. The throw went to the shortstop to get Robertson, but Spivey beat the relay back to first and Sanchez scored to make it 4-2.
With Stamps at the plate, Spivey stole second, but Stamps then flew out to left for the second out of the inning. Right fielder Josh Lang then hit a ball back to the pitcher. A bad throw to first kept the inning alive, but then a fly out to left by pinch hitter Greg Polanski ended the inning with the Oaks trailing by two.
Robertson took over on the mound to start the eighth, but a pair of miscues put two runners on and then an intentional walk to third baseman Devin England loaded the bases with one out. A Sunderland fly ball to center allowed  first baseman Zach Vawter-Scoggins to score from third to make it a 5-2 game. Robertson struck out the next batter to end the inning.
The Oaks got a one out double from Spivey in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't bring him around and then in the top of the ninth, a pair of walks with one out and a base hit brought in Yolo's final run of the game.
A leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth to Polanski gave the Oaks some hope, but three straight outs followed to give Post 77 the 6-2 win.
