Fair Oaks 2, Folsom 1 (League: 14-4, Overall: 31-9) - July 21 @ Sacramento City College - Looking at the hits in the game, you'd think the Folsom Flames were probably winners in this contest, outhitting the Oaks 10-3. But it was the Oaks that prevailed, winning their loser's bracket game by a score of 2-1 over Folsom.
At one time, the hit differential was 9-1, but in fact, that had nothing to do with the outcome as all the Oaks runs were scored in the first inning with only one hit.
After Folsom took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Flames' starting pitcher Aaron Appino issued consecutive walks to third baseman Brian Stamps, designated hitter Charlie Robertson and right fielder Abel Alcantar to load the bases.
First baseman Mike Sanchez then slapped a base hit into left field that allowed Stamps and Robertson to score - aided by an error on the throw in - and give the Oaks a 2-1 lead.
The Oaks would not get another hit until the bottom of the seventh after two were out as shortstop Cameron Barr put down a perfect bunt along the third base line that refused to roll foul as the Folsom players watched it.
The Oaks' only other hit of the game came in the eighth inning - again after two were out - when Stamps got a hit to center field.
Meanwhile, Oaks starter Josh Glaser overcame a rocky first inning and was joined by a solid Oaks defense to get out of more than a few jams the rest of the way.
Two hits with one out in the third got a Flames runner to third, but a strikeout and fly ball ended the inning and left the score at 2-1. In the fourth, Folsom again got two runners on, but failed to score. The Flames also had runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth, but were unable to bring them home.
Glaser shut Folsom down the rest of the way giving up only a walk and one base hit in the last three innings and the Oaks recorded the 2-1 victory to advance to the District 6 championship game against Yolo.
