Abel Alcantar
Yolo 10, Fair Oaks 3 (League: 14-4, Overall: 31-10) - July 21 @ Sacramento City College - After four scoreless innings between Fair Oaks and Yolo, each team scored once in the fifth to keep the game knotted up, but then the roof caved in on Fair Oaks as Yolo scored nine runs in the sixth and went on for a 10-3 victory to claim the 2007 District 6 Championship at Sacramento City College.
The decisive sixth inning started when Ryan Williams walked and Adrian Perez singled to center, moving Williams to second. The biggest play of the inning, though, came next when Zach Vawter-Scoggins layed down a sacrifice bunt and Fair Oaks pitcher Mark Lincoln tried to throw out Williams at third, only for the ball to get by the third baseman allowing Williams to score.
From there, Yolo scored seemingly every way possible. Ian Sunderland walked to drive home one run, Cody Keefer reached on an error to score Sunderland then another Fair Oaks error brought home both Ryan Juarez and Keefer. After that, the flood-gates opened. Perez doubled to right-center to score Williams and Mike Turay and then Vawter-Scoggins promptly singled to score Perez.
Yolo Post 77 (34-6), now advances to the Area 1 Tournament which begins on Wednesday in Chico. Post 77 will take on the District 2-3 champion, the Redding Stars, at 10 a.m. Fair Oaks (31-10), also advances to the Area 1 Tournament in Chico, and will take on the Northern Humboldt Giants, the District 1 champion, at 4 p.m. in Chico.
Abel Alcantar led the way for Fair Oaks going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Josh Britt was 2-for-4 and Ben Schwefel was 3-for-4.
Fair Oaks advanced earlier on Saturday thanks to a 2-1 victory over the Folsom Flames. Josh Glaser was the hero throwing a complete game allowing just one run. Mike Sanchez two-RBI single in the first inning was the winning hit. (Thanks to the D6 Web Page for parts of this story).
