Fair Oaks 6, Napa 5 (League: 0-0, Overall: 1-0) - May 24 @ William Land Park - Charlie Robertson pitched six strong innings and the Oaks held off a seventh inning rally as Fair Oaks Post 383 defeated Napa in the Oaks' opening game of the 2008 District 6 Memorial Day Tournament at William Land Park.
Fair Oaks took a1-0 lead in the top of the first as shortstop Cameron Barr got a one out double to left field. Centerfielder Jon Lang followed with a single to center to score Barr and make it a 1-0 game.
Napa came back for two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a short-lived 2-1 advantage, but the Oaks came back with three runs in the top of the fifth to retake a lead they'd never give up.
Catcher Ryan McCutchan led off the inning with a walk and second baseman Josh Britt followed with a hit to left. Barr then sent a fly ball to center that allowed McCutchan to tag and take third. Lang, the next batter sent a ball to short with the throw going to second. But Britt beat the ball and was safe with McCutchan scoring on the play to make it 2-2. This prompted a Napa pitching change, but Robertson greeted the new Napa hurler with a hit up the middle to score Britt and make it 3-2, with Lang ending up on third. Left fielder Cole Carter then sent a sacrifice fly to right to score Lang and give the Oaks a 4-2 lead.
Post 383 added another run in the top of the sixth as right fielder Josh Glaser got a one out double down the line in right. Glaser scored on a hit to right center by McCutchan and the Oaks owned a 5-2 lead.
Another Napa pitching change in the seventh resulted in the Oaks' final run as Lang led off with a walk. A hit by Robertson to right sent Lang to third, but Robertson recorded the first out of the inning trying to stretch it into a double. A hit up the middle by Ryan Dettman scored Lang to make it a 6-2 game.
The Oaks sent Michael Garber to the mound to try and finish Napa off in the bottom of the seventh, but Napa rallied for three runs to make it a 6-5 game. A hit and a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out. Another Napa hit scored two runs and a ground out brought in a third to close the gap to only one run. Garber struck out the next batter, however, to end the game and preserve the win for the Oaks.
