Charlie Robertson dives back into first on a fifth inning pickoff attempt by Roseville after walking to lead off the inning.  The throw from the pitcher got away and Robertson was able to take second on the play, eventually coming around to score to give the Oaks a 7-4 lead en route to their 16-4 victory. Fair Oaks 16, Roseville 4 (League: 3-0, Overall: 11-0) - June 6 @ Woodcreek High, Roseville - Fair Oaks Post 383 moved to 11-0 on the year with a 16-4 thrashing of Roseville at Woodcreek High School.
The Oaks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning for starting pitcher Josh Glaser. The first five Oaks reached base as left fielder Ryan Dettman led off with a hit up the middle. Dettman, however, was picked off with catcher Ben Schwefel at the plate. Schwefel walked and then center fielder Jon Lang got a hit past short and designated hitter Bret Gibson got a hit to right field to score Schwefel and make it 1-0. Right fielder Bryce Bandilla followed with a double to score Lang and then with two outs, first baseman Charlie Robertson singled to center to score Gibson and Bandilla to make it a 4-0 Oaks lead.
Glaser put Roseville out in order in the first two innings, but in the third, Roseville rallied for four runs of their own as they collected five hits and capitalized on an Oaks error to make it a 4-4 game.
The Oaks came right back in the top of the fourth, however, to go back in the lead as Dettman bunted to lead off the inning for a base hit. Dettman took second on a ground ball to first by Schwefel and then Lang walked to put two runners on. Dettman moved to third on a fly ball to center by Gibson. With the next batter, Bandilla, at the plate, Lang stole second, and then Bandilla grounded to third where the ball was misplayed and both Dettman and Lang scored for a 6-4 Fair Oaks lead.
Glaser returned to form in the bottom of the fourth, putting Roseville down in order and the Oaks came back for another run in the top of the fifth for a 7-4 lead.
Robertson led off with a walk and moved to second on an errant pickoff throw with third baseman Taylor Sanders at the plate. Sanders flew out to center, but Robertson moved to third as the next batter, second baseman Josh Britt, hit a ground ball to short. Robertson scored as Dettman hit a tough-play ball to short resulting in no throw and a 7-4 Oaks lead.
Roseville went down in order again in the fifth and the Oaks put the game away in the top of the sixth with a nine run outburst to make the score 16-4.
Lang led off the inning with a triple to right field and scored on Gibson's hit to left. Bandilla then hit a 3-2 pitch to second that Roseville's second baseman couldn't pick up and shortstop Cameron Barr loaded the bases with a ground ball to third. The throw went to second too late to get Bandilla and everyone was safe. Robertson followed with a hit to left to score Gibson and Bandilla to make it 10-4. Sanders and Cole Carter drew back to back walks, with Carter's forcing in  Barr to make it 11-4. The next batter, Dettman, grounded to second with the ball taking a bad hop in front of the second baseman's glove. Both Robertson and Sanders scored on the play to make it 13-4. A walk to Schwefel reloaded the bases and prompted a Roseville pitching change. Another Roseville error resulted in Carter scoring as Lang hit a ball to short with the throw going wide of second. Glaser then hit a ball to second with the throw going to short for a force of Lang, but Dettman scored on the play to make it 15-4. The Oaks' final run scored on a hit up the middle by Michael Garber that brought Schwefel home for the 16-4 final.
Glaser got two quick outs in the bottom of the sixth before giving up a walk, but Roseville's next batter grounded out to end the sixth. With the Oaks owning such a big lead, the game was called in the bottom of the sixth and the Oaks owned their 11th win of the season against no losses.
