Fair Oaks 10, El Dorado 3 (League: 0-0, Overall: 2-0) - May 24 @ William Land Park - Fair Oaks improved its District 6 Memorial Day Tournament record to 2-0 with a 10-3 win over El Dorado at William Land Park.
Post 383 took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Andrew Gutierez drew a one out walk and Jon Lang followed with a double to send Gutierez to third. Designated hitter Charlie Robertson then grounded out short to first to bring in Gutierez and make it a 1-0 game. First baseman Powell Fansler followed with a hit to left to score Lang and make it a 2-0 game.
The Oaks added three more runs in the top of the second as Garrett Michaels led off with a walk and catcher Ryan McCutchan followed with a hit to right field. Leadoff batter Ryan Dettman then put down a bunt that was fielded by the pitcher, but no play was made and the Oaks had the bases loaded. Michaels scored on a Gutierez fly to right to make it 3-0 and then Lang hit a ball to short that was knocked down, but bobbled and McCutchan scored to make it 4-0. A ground ball to short by Robertson scored Dettman to give the Oaks a 5-0 lead.
El Dorado came back with a run in the bottom of the second after Oaks starting pitcher Josh Glaser had gotten two quick outs. Two errors contributed to the score to make it 5-1, but Glaser got out of the inning with no further damage.
The Oaks came back for three more runs in the third as Jeff Nickell led off with a hit up the middle. With Michael Garber at the plate, Nickell stole second and then moved to third on Garber's ground ball to first. The next batter, Michaels, was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners, and then with two outs, Dettman doubled down the line in right to score Nickell to make it 6-1. Gutierez then got a hit to left that scored both Michaels and Dettman to make it an 8-1 game.
Fair Oaks went up 9-1 in the fourth as Robertson led off with a double down the right field line. Fansler walked and Nickell followed with a hit to left to load the bases with no outs. Garber then sent a sacrifice fly into left that allowed Robertson to score for the 9-1 advantage.
A leadoff triple and three singles in the bottom of the fourth allowed El Dorado to close the score to 9-3, but the Oaks capped off the game off a new El Dorado pitcher in the fifth with another run to make it a 10-3 game.
With one out, Gutierez was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a ground ball to short by Lang. Robertson then singled to left to score Gutierez and give the Oaks their final tally of the game at 10-3.
Lyle Hobart pitched the sixth for the Oaks, replacing Glaser who picked up the eventual win. El Dorado managed to load the bases off Hobart after two were out, but were unable to score. Hobart closed out the game in the seventh putting El Dorado down in order and giving the Oaks the victory.
