Fair Oaks 10, Manhart 0 (League: 13-3, Overall: 29-8) - July 15 @ Clark Field, Woodland - Fair Oaks opened the 2008 District 6 Playoffs with a strong showing as the Oaks beat No. 3 seed Manhart in eight innings by a score of 10-0.
The game was a pitcher's dual in the early going as Oaks starter Charlie Robertson allowed only two hits through the first three innings, but faced only the minimum six batters. Manhart collected a one out single by Nolan Ono in the first and a Thomas Dixon leadoff hit in the third. But a double play erased Ono and Dixon was picked off with a throw from catcher Ben Schwefel to first baseman Justin Haley.
The Oaks only had one hit through the first two innings as shortstop Cameron Barr got a first inning hit after two were out, but then a pair of hits and an error in the bottom of the third brought home the first two runs of the game for a 2-0 Oaks lead.
With one out, Haley got a hit to right and then second baseman Ryan Dettman hit a ball to short that resulted in a bad throw to first. Haley advanced to third on the play, with Dettman taking second. Schwefel's hit to center then brought in the pair to give the Oaks a 2-0 lead.
The Oaks added one more run in the fifth as Haley led off with a hit to center field. Then with one out,  Schwefel grounded to  first, but Manhart first baseman Richard King dropped the ball and couldn't recover it in time to get Schwefel at first. The next batter, Barr,  grounded to third. The throw went to second to get Schwefel, but Barr beat the throw to first and Dettman advanced to third. With runners at first and third, the Oaks then elected to run one of their favorite plays. Barr edged off first far enough to draw a throw and Dettman charged for home, scoring before Barr was tagged out to give the Oaks a 3-0 lead.
Post 383 made it a 5-0 game in the sixth after two were out. Left fielder Michael Garber got a hit to left and then advanced to third on a hit up the middle by center fielder Jon Lang.
With third baseman Taylor Sanders at the plate, Lang stole second without drawing a throw. Sanders eventually struck out, but the ball got away from Manhart catcher Ben Cooper and Sanders beat the throw to first with  Garber scoring and Lang advancing to third. With Haley at the plate, a wild pitch allowed Lang to score to give the Oaks a 5-0 lead.
The Oaks almost put an end to the game in the seventh as they scored four more runs for a 9-0 lead. One more run would have ended the game due to the tournament's 10-Run Rule. Dettman led off with a hit to center and took second on a slow throw back to the infield. With one out, a hit to left by Barr scored Dettman for a 6-0 lead. With Cole Carter at the plate, Barr stole second and then scored on Carter's hit to left. Cody Osburn followed with a hit to center resulting in a Manhart pitching change as Dixon took over for Zack Dreizen, who had come in to start the seventh in relief of starter Rob Lund. Garber greeted dixon with a hit to left to load the bases. Lang followed with a hit to left to score Carter and then a fly ball to right by Jeff Nickell allowed Osburn to come home to make it a 9-0 game. The next batter, Haley, hit a line drive straight at the first baseman to end the inning and keep Manhart's slim hoped alive.
Robertson put Manhart down in order in the top of the eighth and the Oaks ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with their 10th run of the game.
Josh Britt led off with a groundout to third, but then Schwefel got a hit to right field off Manhart's fourth pitcher of the game - Joe Izaki. The Oaks proceded to load up the bases as the next two batters - Carter and Osburn - were hit by pitches. Garber then sent the ball into left for a base hit to score Schwefel and end the game via the 10-Run Rule.
Robertson pitched the shut out, striking out five, as the Oaks advanced in the winner's bracket of the tournament.
