Oroville 8, Fair Oaks 1 (League: 11-1, Overall: 27-9-1) - July 16 @ Tiger Field, Redding, Calif. - - Story from the Chico Enterprise Record
By Staff Reports
Oroville's Kendall Blank had 15 strikeouts and his teammates
exploded offensively after being held scoreless for the first seven innings of
their 8-1 win over Fair Oaks in the American Legion Area 1 playoffs on Thursday
night.
It improved Oroville to 2-0 in the tournament, which is
being played in Redding. Only one run has been allowed in the team's two
victories.
Tonight, Oroville will play the winner of the other winner's
bracket matchup between the Chico Nuts and Redding Rattlers. The start of that
game was initially scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday night but was delayed for
nearly 90 minutes because of a long extra-innings contest in the afternoon
causing delays for the remainder of tournament action. It didn't finish before
this story went to press.
Blank apparently wasn't affected by the wait. His 15
strikeouts were came during his seven scoreless innings of work before he was
replaced with the game still scoreless.
"You have to give Fair Oaks credit, too, because their
(pitching) was just as good," Oroville coach Joe Hottinger said. "They finally
ran out of gas and we capitalized."
Oroville scored four runs in the eighth and four more in the
ninth.
Tonight's lone winner's bracket game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Oroville will advance straight into Sunday's finals pairing for the
double-elimination tournament with a victory.
The winner of the Eureka-Yolo game is slated to face Fair
Oaks today at 1 p.m.
