Fair Oaks 8, Yolo 4 (League: 0-0, Overall: 1-0) - May 29 @ William Land Park, Sacramento, Calif. - Fair Oaks opened its 2010 season with a victory in the District 6 Memorial Day Tournament at William Land Park as the Oaks beat Yolo Post 77 by a score of 8-4. Yolo jumped on Fair Oaks starter Daniel Synhorst early as a hit, hit batter and walk loaded the bases with one out in the first inning. A ground out and another base hit brought in two runs to give Post 77 a 2-0 lead. The Oaks got one run back in the bottom of the inning as shortstop Alec Strain hit a one out double to right center field. He scored on catcher Mike Nantze's hit up the middle to make it a 2-1 game. Yolo scored another pair of runs in the top of the third as Synhorst struggled a bit. Yolo collected a pair of hits and three walks, including a bases loaded two-out walk to force in a run to make it 4-1. Post 383 closed the gap with a single run in the third as second baseman Jimmy Basinger led off with a hit to center. The next batter, Strain, grounded to short with the throw going to second to get Basinger. The relay to first was wide though and pulled the first baseman off the bag and Strain was safe. Strain stole second with Nantze at the plate and then with two out, third baseman Ryan Hall got a hit to right to score Strain to make it 4-2. Fair Oaks tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth as Basinger got a one out hit to center. Then with two out, Nantze tripled to left field to score Basinger and make it 4-3. Hall followed with a a hit down the third base line to score Nantze to tie the game at 4-4. The Oaks had a chance for more as Bret Sundberg got a hit to center and first baseman Shane Rae followed with a ground ball to second. The second baseman threw the ball away, however, and the Oaks had the bases loaded. Yolo wriggled out of the mess though as center fielder Aaron Saul-Guzman took the count full before striking out to end the inning. Jake Bandilla took the mound in the top of the sixth and held Yolo scoreless despite giving up two walks. The Oaks came right back to take their first lead of the game with a four run outburst in the bottom of the inning. David Dellaserra led off with a pinch hit double to left. With one out, Basinger walked and with Strain at the plate, a passed ball advanced both runners. Strain hit a fly to right that allowed Dellaserra to tag and score from third to make it a 5-4 game. Nantze followed with a double to left to score Basinger and then Hall tripled to center to score Nantze and make it 7-4. The Oaks final run came home as Sundberg lined the ball off a leaping second baseman's glove to score Hall and make it 8-4. Logan Appledorn followed with a hit to left, but a fly ball out by Saul-Guzman ended the inning with the Oaks owning a four run lead. Bandilla allowed only a one out walk in the top of the seventh and shut out Yolo for the second straight inning to preserve the 8-4 victory. It was the eighth straight victory for Fair Oaks over Yolo dating back to July 16, 2008.
