Manhart 6, Fair Oaks 3 (League: 0-0, Overall: 1-1) - May 30 @ William Land Park, Sacramento, Calif. - Manhart showed they might be a force to be reckoned with when the 2010 District 6 season gets underway next week as the Sacramento team topped Fair Oaks 6-3 in the American Legion Memorial Day Tournament at William Land Park. The teams played scoreless ball until the top of the third when Manhart scored its first run against Oaks starter Zane Hemphill. A one out double, followed by a hit batter and single gave Manhart a 1-0 lead. Fair Oaks came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the third as center fielder Aaron Saul-Guzman got a one out hit to left center. He moved to second on a ground ball to short by second baseman David Dellaserra and then scored on right fielder Andrew Beard's double down the third base line to make it a 1-1 game. Manhart went back ahead in the very next inning with a lone run, however, against new Oaks pitcher Josh Paige. The Oaks went out in order in the bottom of the inning and Manhart extended its lead in the top of the fifth with another pair of runs for a 4-1 advantage. The Oaks closed the deficit to one with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning as Beard led off with a hit to left field. Shortstop Dustin Vaught was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on and third baseman Kevin Lyman walked to load the bases. Unfortunately for the Oaks, the next batter catcher Shawn Wheeler hit into a double play, but Beard came in to make it a 4-2 game. With first baseman Shane Rae at the late, a wild pitch brought in Vaught to pull the Oaks within one at 4-3. Jimmy Basinger came in to pitch the top of the seventh, but immediately got in trouble by walking the first two batters he faced. He was replaced by Vaught, but a third-to-first bunt went for an error and Manhart scored to make it 5-3. A one out sacrifice fly to right brought in another run and Manhart tallied its sixth run of the game for a 6-3 advantage. The Oaks got two runners on in the bottom of the inning as Beard was hit by a pitch with one out and Vaught singled to left. But a fly ball and ground out ended the inning sending the Oaks down to their first defeat of the year.
