Post 383 Starts Season With 4-0 Harball Win

    The Fair Oaks American Legion Post 383 baseball team got off to a good start on Saturday, beating Charles Eggen 4-0 at Bella Vista High School, in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.
    Made up of players from Bella Vista and Casa Roble Fundamental high schools, the Post 383 team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
    Left fielder Matt Borcich led off with a hit to left field. Pitcher Brett Rapozo followed with a bunt past Charles Eggen's pitcher that rolled into the gap between first and second for a hit, moving Borcich all the way to third base.
    Shortstop Eric McDowell then got a hit into right field to score Borcich, making it a 1-0 game.

    Fair Oaks added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to up the score to 4-0 as three consecutive walks loaded the bases.
    With two outs, second baseman Brent Massoth, third baseman Mat Erwin, and center fielder Brion Casper all drew free-passes.
    First baseman Chris Borcich then got a hit to left field to drive in Massoth and Erwin, making it 3-0, and driving Charles Eggen's pitcher out of the game.
    Matt Bachlor, Eggen's third hurler of the day, gave up a hit to the first batter he faced, as right fielder Chris Kurtz sent the ball into left field scoring Casper from third to make it 4-0.
    Mark Haley came in to pitch the ninth inning for Fair Oaks, recording one out before giving up a walk. The next batter Haley faced, however, hit into a double play - ending the inning and giving Post 383 the win over Charles Eggen.
    Rapozo and Haley combined for a one-hitter against Charles Eggen, while Fair Oaks pounded out nine hits in the game. Charles Eggen got revenge in the second game of the twin bill, however, beating Fair Oaks 8-4 as Post 383 committed five errors in the game.
    Leading 3-2 after four innings, Charles Eggen scored four times in the top of the fifth inning to put the game away.
    On Sunday, the two teams played a single game as Jesuit High School, with Fair Oaks winning the contest 7-6.
    With Fair Oaks taking a 2-0 lead in the first, Charles Eggen tied it up by scoring single runs in the first and second innings.
    Fair Oaks got back on top with another pair of runs in the third inning to make it 4-2, but Eggen pulled to within one after scoring in the bottom of the fourth.
    Both teams scored twice in the seventh inning, with Fair Oaks adding a run in the eighth and Charles Eggen adding one in the ninth for the final margin of 7-6.
    Kurtz went 3-for-5 for Fair Oaks with a double and four RBI.
    Post 383 was scheduled to play Post 61 at Sacramento City College last night and will travel to Roseville for an 11:30 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Sunday, Fair Oaks will host Roseville in a single game scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at Bella Vista.
